From Cart to Café: How MAAM Helped Bring Bevel Coffee Home
Some projects are about designing a space. Others are about helping a story reach its next chapter.
For Bevel Coffee, that chapter began long before the doors opened to its new Pasadena café.
Founded as a mobile espresso bar and coffee roaster, Bevel built its reputation one cup at a time—serving farmers markets, local businesses, community gatherings, and private events throughout the San Gabriel Valley. Wherever people gathered, Bevel showed up with thoughtfully sourced coffee, intentional hospitality, and a genuine commitment to connection. Coffee has always been more than a drink; it's a moment shared between people.
When the opportunity came to establish a permanent home in Pasadena, MAAM partnered with Bevel to help transform years of growth, relationships, and community-building into a brick-and-mortar destination. The goal was not simply to create a café, but to capture the spirit that made the coffee cart special in the first place.

The name "Bevel" comes from carpentry—a small angled edge that isn't structural, yet changes everything through intention and craft. That philosophy became a guiding principle for the design. Every material, detail, and spatial decision was approached with the same care and thoughtfulness that Bevel brings to roasting and serving coffee. The result is a warm, welcoming environment that feels familiar from the moment guests walk through the door.
Today, Bevel's café on North Allen Avenue serves as both a neighborhood gathering place and a reflection of the values that shaped the company from the beginning: quality, responsibility, and community. The space gives the growing brand room to continue sharing responsibly sourced coffees while creating new opportunities for conversation, connection, and belonging.
For MAAM, projects like Bevel Coffee represent the power of design to support entrepreneurs, strengthen neighborhoods, and help local businesses grow without losing sight of who they are. What began as a mobile coffee cart has become a permanent home for a thriving community—one thoughtfully crafted cup at a time.
Whether you're operating a coffee cart, launching a hospitality concept, expanding a retail brand, or simply have a vision that deserves a physical home, MAAM can help bring it to life. We partner with founders, operators, and entrepreneurs to transform ideas into meaningful spaces that support growth, foster connection, and reflect the heart of a brand.
