WALDEN SCHOOL ART STUDIO
PASADENA, CALIFORNIA

The renovation of Walden School’s art studio was designed to support the school’s deeply rooted belief in creativity, inquiry, and self-expression as essential parts of a child’s education. Inspired by Walden’s Teaching for Artistic Behavior (TAB) philosophy, the reimagined studio is centered around flexibility and student-led exploration, creating an environment that can continually evolve alongside the work being created within it.

Flexible tables and stools allow the space to shift easily between individual making, collaborative projects, and group discussions, while a mobile whiteboard on castors can be repositioned throughout the studio to support changing lessons and modes of learning. Open and adaptable by design, the studio encourages movement, experimentation, and hands-on discovery across a variety of artistic mediums. More than just a classroom, the renovated space functions as a dynamic creative hub that reflects Walden’s commitment to nurturing curiosity, confidence, and independent thinking through the arts.
